After a week of relaxing by the pool, sipping tropical cocktails, enjoying fresh seafood and taking romantic strolls along the beach at sunset, I proposed to my partner in the tropical surrounds of Bramston Beach House.
Its alluring scenery could be best described as a 14-kilometre long stretch of fine, white sand with a backdrop of lavish shades of green from the thriving rainforests on one side and a spectacular view of the turquoise colour of the Coral Sea on the other. The Mission Beach is the proverbial “best of both worlds” given that the Wet Tropics rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef come together in this highly acclaimed beach village. The whole place exudes this warm tropical ambience and the friendliness of the people living in the area makes it the ideal destination for leisure and relaxation
Situated in the halfway point of Cairns and Townsville, the Mission Beach is actually a collective term for four beach communities that make up the stretch of the 14-kilometre shoreline. Each of them is a popular tourist destination by itself and is appropriately commercialized to cater the needs of each and every visitor. At the same time, the communities are natural havens for numerous wildlife species and several nature-related activities and adrenaline-pumping sports are lined up for tourists, for instance the infamous tandem skydiving.
First of the four beaches is the South Mission Beach. It offers an astounding view to the island across it, which is called the Dunk Island. The South Mission Beach is famous for its water sports and activities that include kayaking and fishing while riding a small roundabout, which is commonly known as a “tinnie”.
The second beach provides the fastest access to the Dunk Island via self-paddled boats or water taxis. The Wongaling Beach boasts of the beachfront bars and restaurants that line up its coast. A lot of tourists also enjoy shopping in the Wongaling shopping centre, where specialty shops put distinctive items and souvenirs up for sale.
Mission Beach, which is actually merely a fourth of the whole beach community, is apparently the most visited among the four. It spells luxury with its gourmet bars and bisto and deluxe hotel accommodations. At the same time, the more nonchalant crowd can take pleasure in the untouched beauty of the beach while sipping their ice cold beers in outdoor caf
And lastly, the Bingil Bay is favored by indie groups such as musicians and other types of artists because of its laid-back environment. Seaside grills are set up where tourists can either order their favorite seafood or catch and cook it themselv
In less than two hours of driving time from Cairns and three from Townsville, you can go on a day trip and take part in the breathtaking experience that the Mission Beach has to offer. On your way home, you can cap off your vacation by staying at the Bramston Beach House at Evans Road, which is within the proximity of Cairns. To get there, make a left turn onto the Bramston Beach Road then drive straight ahead. Once you see the sign pointing towards the direction of the Evans Road, turn right and from there you can already feel the homely vibe coming from the beachfront home at the end of the road
